The Clay County Public Works Department currently spends about $1,700,000 on stormwater maintenance each year. $1.2 million is spent cleaning ditches and drainage system and repairing cave-ins on drain lines. Another $500,000 is spent on contract services making major repairs on drainage lines. All of this funding is from the 3701 account which also provides all the road maintenance. If a base stormwater fee was established for maintenance the existing $ 1.7 million from 3701 account could be used to improve our failing infrastructure.
