SHIFT is a program based in Clay County, which is focused on providing residents who are transportation disadvantaged with a means to expand and improve their access to employment -- for free! Adults who would benefit from a bicycle can reach out to Michael Slaughter at Michael.Slaughter@ClayCountyGov.com or call 904-529-4119 to complete a Needs Assessment form (HYPERLINK:https://forms.monday.com/forms/542eef6f94151b1ec8cc05259357e9c2?r=use1). If approved to receive a free bicycle, individuals can expect to be on the road again in no time! Each bicycle is tailored to your specific size and style necessities and preferences. Bikes also undergo a 25-point safety inspection and are fully equipped with LED headlights and taillights, a bike lock, a tire pump, a water bottle holder, a luggage rack, and a brand-new set of grips! SHIFT obtains bikes through a partnership with JP Hall Children's Charities' Last Chance Bike Shop and James Boys Ministry.
If you would like to donate a bicycle (any bike, any condition) to the SHIFT program, please take it to any Clay County Fire Station! Even old bikes that you think are too far gone to be repaired may be fixable or usable for spare parts (the bike repair technicians love a challenge). Also, if you would like to volunteer your time by repairing and restoring bikes, please reach out to Michael Slaughter for more information.
