AGENDA ITEM TYPE:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

April 2021 and April 2022 – We will be working with Airstream Ventures, a sports event marketing firm, to bid on the Atlantic Sun (ASUN) Conference Women’s Golf Championship.  The ASUN includes universities like UNF, JU, Stetson, FL Gulf Coast, Liberty, U N. AL, Lipscomb University, NJ Institute of Technology, and Kennesaw State.  Estimated number of competitors is approximately 40. The Tourism Dept. has coordinated with a local golf course and local hotels to bid on this opportunity.  One of the requirements for the bid is a $7,500 sponsorship that covers operational costs (officials, scoreboard, online scoring, website, etc.) and  the cost of the Annual Banquet where they will award Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, etc.  There is competition for this tournament.  The sponsorship investment will only be used if Clay County wins the bid.

January 2020 - Airstream Ventures, a sports event marketing firm, is creating a women’s collegiate golf tournament that will allow women to earn World Ranking Points for additional tournament qualifications. This tournament has a larger reach.  Maximum competitors for this tournament will be 96. We’ve coordinated with a local golf course and local hotels to create this opportunity.  A $7,500 sponsorship will cover operational costs (officials, scoreboard, online scoring, website, marketing, etc.) and  the cost of a tournament banquet. The reason this tournament is not included in the memo, is that this opportunity was made available last week.
